Do I need a particular phone or tablet?
No. Pocket Tutor works on all smartphones, tablets and computers. It runs in modern browsers such as Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge and Apple Safari, so there's nothing to install.
How do coins and games work?
Learners earn coins by learning: up to 20 for a top quiz score (on a topic or a video), plus bonus coins as each topic fills up in their knowledge tank. They spend coins to play games in the arcade, where a good score wins some back. New games unlock as they earn more coins from learning (coins won in games don't count). There's one coin bank for each learner, shared across all their subjects.
Are the games educational?
It's a mix. Brain games like Fib Busters (facts about their own subject) and Cyborg Swarm (quick maths) keep the learning going. The rest are just for fun: a reward they've earned by learning first.
Can my child learn in their home language?
Yes. Choose from over 20 languages, including Polish, Urdu, Arabic, Romanian and Welsh. The tutor explains in that language and gives the key subject words in English, because the exams are in English.
Can learners talk to their tutor instead of typing?
Yes. Tap the microphone and speak, and the tutor can read its replies out loud in its own voice.
What are the videos and pictures?
While they learn, their tutor can find short videos and pictures or diagrams on exactly what they're discussing, right inside the app. Videos can come with a quick quiz for extra coins, and they can tap a picture to ask their tutor about it.
